If I were a Sunday school teacher I would teach lessons of faith that would be lasting. The love of the Bible and it's meaningful lessons of faith, can be cemented in a young mind by connecting the lesson to science. Real science. The God who made science.
Hebrew 11 teaches that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things UNSEEN. A lesson on magnetism's invisible force can cement that lesson of faith. You cannot SEE what sends the metal paper clip up to the magnet, but you believe anyway. You know the invisible energy is there - don't you?
No. But one of the greatest minds of the last 500 years was Isaac Newton. DId you know he was a man of faith and wrote papers on Daniel and Revelation? The more you learn about true science - the more you see the fingerprints of God in all the laws of motion. As you dive into science you can bring out lessons on faith, such as a prism of colors from God's rainbow promise to Noah.
We will have some great science tie-in's coming for Bible stories that can be tied into a science lesson. The children will never forget THAT lesson - and hopefully God's message that went with it!
We will have some Bible class lessons tied into science experiments or demonstrations coming in the next month. Do we use the Bible as a compass to guide our decisions? Where does Psa. 75:6-7 say that promotion comes from? Tie it into a science lesson on "Making a Water Compass". Can water in John 3:5 apply?
In 1855 Matt Maury, known as the first oceanographer noticed that the Bible had the phrase, " the PATHS of the seas" in Psalms 8:8. Then he began studying ocean winds and currents - and gave crucial support to laying the Transatlantic cable by showing just where the cable route could be laid across the ocean floor. Who do you think told David the Psalmist about the "paths of the seas"?
Back in the mid 1970's a special submersible named Alvin traveled to the depths of the sea and found fountains or vents of water for the first time in man's history. But the Bible told us that some three thousand years ago in Prov. 8:28 and Job 38:16. How could any Bible writers have known that?
For thousands of years people of the earth believed that the earth was flat, or held up by turtles, or Hercules, or many other myths. But the Bible stated in Isaiah 40:22 that "the earth was a circle" and Proverbs 8:27 the same. The Bible also told us way before Galileo in Job 26:7 that "the earth hangeth upon nothing."
